Direct Notice to Parents

Latch Mobile’s adherence to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires us to tell you about the personal information we collect from any child under the age of 13, explain how we use that information, and obtain your consent before we collect any information. Because we believe understanding and protecting a child’s privacy is important regardless of their age, Latch Mobile requires all parents to provide their consent and will not collect any information from any child until consent is given.

How is Consent Given or Revoked?

We verify your consent by requiring your acknowledgement to having read this notice and collecting payment information during registration. If at any time you choose to revoke the consent you provided, you may send an email to support@latchmobile.com and we will stop collection and delete the information we previously collected.

What Personal Information is Collected from a Child?

Latch Mobile requires you to provide personal information about a participating child including name, age, contact information and phone number. This information is used to manage the mobile devices the child uses and allow those devices to be provisioned for data collection.

When a child’s mobile device is provisioned, we automatically collect and analyze the following information: location and motion, browsing and search activity, text and multimedia messages, photos and videos, accounts and contacts, social media activity, app usage including screen content and interactions, device settings and configuration, network connectivity.

We don’t require a child to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to participate, but given the nature of our service this does include a lot of potentially personal information, which we only use to deliver our service and only for the benefit of the parent that has consented to the data collection.

How is a Child’s Personal Information Used?

The information we collect, and any personal information included within it, is stored, analyzed for risks, and parts of it made accessible to parents when associated with an identified risk.

In order to monitor for potential risks, we may employ third party data processing services to analyze a child’s information in accordance with our instructions and policies, and for the express purpose of providing the alerts and notifications for which you are using our services. Third parties do not use this information in any personally identifiable form, but may use such information in anonymized or aggregated form to improve their data processing services.

Latch Mobile strives to maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of information we collect from children, including by taking reasonable steps to ensure third parties are capable of maintaining its confidentiality and security. We do not rent or sell the information we collect from a child in any form to anyone.

The information we collect from a child’s mobile devices is automatically deleted after 30 days unless you as the parent explicitly identified the specific information to be retained, or it is necessary to comply with the law or a court order.
